Unfortunately, a public anonymous forum cannot prevent folks from inappropriate comments. I do hope that all of us can be respectful and demonstrate our gratefulness that Mr. Kastengren, Mr. Poole, and Mr. Beyerl are taking the time to get involved. This is a thankless, but critical position necessary to the success of providing an excellent education at reasonable costs. I do see the importance of recognizing a candidate that has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform such a task and capable of holding all members accountable to performance. As a member of this community, I have the privilege of voting for the candidates I believe are best suited to hold these positions. I will not take this opportunity lightly and understand I have a responsibility to become well informed with the facts before voting. I have the right to vote and also have the responsibility to be respectful to others in the community.
Well said Susan. I agree that name calling is not appropriate. I do however agree with the first post that Poole and Beyerl are the clear picks and will be able to help the district deliver a great education in a fiscally responsible manner - something Kastengren refuses to do.
I agree, well said Susan. I have been following this blog since it was created and noticed that it gets nasty at times, which is too bad. There can be differences of opinions, but too many times it turns personal and gets ugly. Thank you for taking the time to become and stay informed about the issues and the candidates. I think all 3 running have spent the time and effort to become informed and make decisions that are in the best interest of the children and the taxpayers.
To the post above. Kastengren voted to increase the last budget about $250,000 more than what the administrator presented. How is that in the best interest of the taxpayers?
Mr. Kastengren shows his dedication to the district. He shows up at almost every school event~ and he really is the only school board member I have seen actually enter the school and talk with the teachers and see what is happening with the students. That amount of dedication is irreplacable. He needs to stay!
Mr. Kastengren does all of the things a nice grandparent does. On the other hand, he has missed board meetings and has proposed higher budgets. He does not lead on the board but rather follow whatever the administration tells him. We should let him be a grandparent rather than a school board member.
Kastengren, while a nice man, is only interested in keeping the gravy train going for the teachers and administration, rather than quality education in a fiscally responsible manner.
One of my biggest issues with Kastengren is that he obstains from voting on teacher contracts because his daughter in law is a teacher. We need board members who do not have any conflict of interest on our board.
Then I suppose we shouldn't elect any members with kids in the district as that would be a conflict of interest. If a board member's kid had a bad experience with a teacher or principal, that board member could make life miserable for that particular teacher or principal.
We can draw this out to ridiculous lengths if you like. Fact is that Mr. Kastengren is an intelligent man who takes the moral high road on the contract issue.
Comparing the ability of having a huge impact on the financial interests of your son and his wife, to the lack of ability to "pick" on a teacher is really dumb. The District Administrator handles discipine.
This issue is as over as the science on global warming is settled...NOT
Actually, the district admin would have less authority than you think. Ultimately, the board would have to make the decision and, to be honest, we live in a community where the board has a tremendous amount of influence/control over the district. If you don't think a board member can use their pull to make a teacher's life miserable, you're pretty naive.
Kastengren has one vote and he abstains on matters like the contract. If that's the one issue upon which you're going to knock Bob, then you need to put the tinfoil hat away for awhile. And *I'll* gladly be the first to point out where undue influence is exerted in our government. It's just not here. And I say this as someone who's attending a Tea Party today out of state and would LOVE to see smaller government.
Bob won, and by a pretty decent margin at that. If there was such outrage, he'd have gotten slaughtered at the polls.
Either that or they just saw Paul for what he really is.

Wow, it can't get any clearer for me. Poole and Beyerl have my vote. Kastengren is really just an out of touch donkey!
Wow! Way to start the name calling right off the bat. That will sure earn votes for your candidates!

Well said 2:24 PM

Thanks, Waterford, for voting with some common sense and maintaining a balance on the school board!

And he won too, so it's a dead issue.
